Africa holds self-filming festival in Dakar
The "Africa is filming itself" African documentary film festival opened late Monday at the French Institute Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar. The programme provides for the screening of nine documentary films of various formats in addition to a roundtable discussion witnessed by filmmakers such as Ousmane William Mbaye, Samba Félix Ndiaye and Moussa Touré. GBV Film Festial
DAKAR, Senegal, 27 November - Zimbabwean filmmaker Tawanda Gunda-Mupengo took home the $1,000 first prize in the continent’s largest Pan African Film Festival. Several hundred people gathered at the launch to watch his film, “Spell My Name,”. 84 films from 18 African countries were submitted for inclusion in the festival, organized by UNFPA, to call attention to gender based violence.
